Plastic Surgery, What Are People Getting Done?

Tummy tuck method

In 2011 alone, cosmetic surgery and other similar procedures raked in over 10 billion dollars.

What are people getting done?

1. Photofacials

What is photofacial? Photofacial treatments are increasing in popularity. The practice uses light technology to treat skin imperfections, and many have been pleased by the photofacial results.

2. Laser Treatments

Another procedure that is very similar is called laser resurfacing. The the technology used and outcome is very similar to photofacials and photofacial results. Patients who choose laser resurfacing undergo treatments with a laser or concentrated light beam to hide the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, and skin abnormalities.

New fraxel lasers also treat wrinkles from brow lines and crows feet and make surface scars, acne scars, and age spots less visible. Fraxel lasers, however, also have the benefit of treating sun damaged skin including serious precancerous conditions like Actinic Keratosis (AK).

3. Botox

Botox is here to stay. In 1990, the FDA approved the use of Botox to treat eye muscle spasms. Since then, people have injected it to remove wrinkles, tighten up skin, and create the appearance of fuller lips.

4. Breast Augmentation, Breast Reduction

Surgeries altering the appearance and shape of breasts are still common. Certified plastic surgeons first introduced breasts implants in the sixties. The FDA began regulating them in 1976.

People continue to spend billions on these cosmetic procedures and others, including face lift surgery, liposuctions, and stretch mark laser treatment. Learn more about this topic here.
